Vocabulary: Chemical Changes

  1. physical change =  a change in size, shape, or state, without forming a new substance .

2.chemical change= a change in matter that produces a new substances with  different properties from the original .

3.chemical reaction = a chemical change of original substances into one or more new subtances

4.reactant = one of the oiginal substances before a chemical reaction takes place .

5.product= one of the new subtances produced when a chemical  reaction takes place .

Vocabulary:Mixtures and Solutions

mixture= two or more parts blended together yet keeping their own properties and not turning into a new substance.

solution = a mixture in which substances are completely  blended so that the properties are the same throughout and the substances stay blended.
suspension = a mixtue of substances that separate upon standing .
colloid=particles (or droplets) large enough to block out light spread throughout another substance .

emulsion = a liquid spread through a gas .

aerosol= liquid drops or solid particles spread through a gas .

gel = a solid spead though a liquid .

foam= a gas spread though a liquid or solid .

Vocabulary: Solid, Liquid , and gases

state of matter=any of the forms matter can exist in.

melting point = the temperature at which a solid changes state into a liquid .

boiling point= the temperature at which a liquid changes state into a gas.

freezing point = the temperature at bwhich a liquid changes state into a solid .

Vocabulary:Invisible Light

electromagnetism= The production of magnetism by electricity and the production of    electicity by magnets .

electromagnetic spectum = all the wavelengths of visible and invisible light in a short (gamma rays) to long(radio).

Laser= a device that produces a thin stream of light of just a few  close wavelengths .

Vocabulary:Colors of light

prism = a cut of piece of clear glass (or plastic) with two opposite sides in the shape of a triangle or other geometric shape.
spectrum = a band of colors produced when light goes through a prism.

primary color = red , green, or blue ; mixing these colors can produce all the colors absorbs one primary color of light and reflects the other two .

primary pignent = magenta , cyan , yellow ; material with any of these colors absorbs one primary color of light and reflects the other two.

Vocabulay:Light and Lenses

opaque=completely  blocking light from passing through.
Transparent=letting all light through ,so that objects on the other side can be seen clearly .

translucent= letting only some light through, so that objects on the other side appear blurry .

polarization = allowing light vibrations  to pass throught in only one  direction .

refraction =the bending of light rays as they pass from one substance into another.

convex lens = a lens that curves outward (is thicker at the middle than at the edges ) and brings light rays together .

concave lens= a lens that curves inward (is thicker at the edges than at the middle ) and spreads light rays apart.

Air Pollution

Air Pollution

By: Michelle Concepción

List # 9

Teacher: Ramón Guerra

Day: 22-9-2010

¿What is air pollution?

Air pollution is problems that are in all communities because are in the air the air pollution is the putting chemicals that can affect the air in a killed way like the problem that are in my community there are a industry of Cars ‘ s Toyota . All the time there are a lot of Smoke. My neighbor all was sneezing by the terrible smoke of the cars industry.

Possible solutions

The possible solution of this problem can be:

1.    To write a letter to the Toyota saying about the problem.
2.    I make some brochure to the people see about this problem of the smoke of the cars in the community.
3.    I go one day to the church with my friends and we talk about the smoke.
4.    We can go to a center of treating the air o to a laboratory to more information.

Conclusion

Pollution is the addition to the ecosystem of something which has a detrimental effect on it. One of the most important causes of pollution is the high rate of energy usage by modern, growing populations.
Different kinds of pollution are found:
§       Air Pollution.
§       Water Pollution.
§       Land Pollution.

The Pollution cause effects in:

§       Human health

§       Environment
